Updated my G2 SSD from firmware 02HD to 02M3

and i saw a drop in speed O_O

here are some before and after pics....

    Before update ---> 02HD

These are my results after the new firmware. My drive is 160GB though. Can't remember if that matters for G2.

Looks to me like the famous intel chipset problem. Ever tried the tweaks?

I read somewhere that the new firmware drops sequentials a little bit but you gain IOPS. That said, All my numbers are pretty high except the 4KQD32 because I was on IDE at the time.

but the 4K write speeds seem to have taken a hit.... Would these drop in speeds actually be noticeable in real world situations.

Both 4K read and write took a hit. It can affect real world performance.

    Did you do the tweaks?

I have never done any of the tweaks before or after the firmware...

Only things I do frpm what ive read is install Intel RST, disable defrag and pre-fetch.

Why would I need to do tweaks if it was already running good without tweaks?

I never read anything bad about the firmware update so why would this happen. I kind of want to call Intel.

Mine came with 02M3, and it seems to be working fine (given that its on a desktop x58)

The second CDM seems in line to what people get with the intels X25 on mobile none sandy bridge chipsets, the first seems like tweaks, given that you didnt do them, maybe you were runing stuff in the background when you ran it the first time?

I cant even begin to think what I could have been running. Out of my 74 GB available in the SSD I even had like 30 Used.

I need to reformat my laptop anyways and do a fresh install since i might be selling it (without the ssd lol)

Hopefully when I run CDM again after the reformat it returns to its normal state. ima follow the tweaks available on here see if it returns the ssd back to its normal state.

Because your CDM results are EXACTLY the kinds you get when the chipset is the problem.

If you want to test my suggestion just disable intelppm in your registry (from 3 to 4). If that works than look into the tweaks.

And I agree it's weird that this would affect you after a firmware update. But it does seem to be the case.

I think you want to leave pre-fetch on. Disabling superfetch was the controversial one and really affected older drives before the G2. I think what you're supposed to do is install firmware, all drivers and run WEI and let Windows decide. I'm fuzzy on exact details since it's been a while.

I think my Intel toolbox optimizer disabled superfetch.

superfetch is a wash on SSD. It is not going to help much(doubt anyone can notice the difference before load from RAM vs SSD) nor going to hurt the SSD(for the extra writes needed to remember the fetch pattern).

I think RAM will be always faster than SSD. Would be nice to test. I'm not running Windows at the moment so I can't.
