Intel postpone 25nm SSDs to February 2011 - www.nordichardware.com
So while Intel will release a 120GB X25-M G2 model in late 2010, the G3 models with 25nm flash memory won't be released until Feb. 2011.

Ugh... 5 months. I guess Corsair Nova it is.
-
Dissappointing...
Q1 2011 is also when Sandforce 2 and C400 are planned.
Why Nova? -
Power draw mostly. Either that or a Kingston V+.
-
arrrhg! long wait.
-
phil you got any info on this sandforce 2 and c400?
-
will these next generation SSD's have a big improvement over the current models? i still plan on pickin up the 160GB corsair force SSD, but it's not something i can't live without so i don't mind waiting.
-
Can't really answer that until they come out. The only thing we know for sure is that 25nm flash is coming, which should mean lower prices.
-
You mean performance wise? I expect there's not that much juice left in SATA II. For the real speed bump we're going to need SATA III.
The real improvement of Intel G3 is expected in price per GB.
All I read was that they're expected in Q1 2011 and probably use 25nm flash. -
Crap. There goes my plan to have a Sandy Bridge laptop in January or February
-
yah!
goodbye sandy , hello g3 ssd! -
According to the article, it is speculated that no one will be able to sell their products with Intel/Micron's 25nm flash until Intel releases their G3 SSDs, but I believe Samsung or Toshiba already has 24nm flash ready and will probably see those coming before Intel.

If it gives them more time to refine the technology and increase the cost cutting the new smaller nm process allows, then Im happy to wait a few more months. Price per GB is the real killer with SSDs right now, once they can lower the cost, more people will invest in them, which in turn should mean more profit, some of which could be put into further research.
Right now its only enthusiasts and perhaps some high level users with massive data read speed requirements that are buying them, lower the cost and eventually they'll drift into the market for the average gamer, before eventually becoming mass market.
Whilst they cost 10-20x more than a traditional drive, that's just not going to happen. -
You could always get the laptop first and get the SSD a month later.
I'm just wondering when will the sandy appears in Alienware I hope my waits worth it. -
Bad news for me too. I was putting asinde some money for G3.

Im just dissapointed at this news... I was looking forward to getting a 300gb or 600gb G3 for storage in Q4 2010, but it seams ill have to get something else now, becouse listening to the clicking noise of the HD i have for storage is already driving me crazy.
-
then why don't you fix the clicking noise?
-
Yes 100% true, but i rather have my laptop complete when i buy it
Im waiting for an Asus laptop with Sandy Bridge, hopefully something with dual fan like the gaming series. But if Alienware push SB out first, who knows, i may try that brand for the first time.

I think if there is one area in computer tech where it is worth waiting at this stage it is with SSD's. I will patiently wait till I can get a OCZ vertex 3 with 25nm nand and 250GB for hopefully £250
-
Well, this is good, now I can save my money and get a 160GB
-
wonders when will OCZ vertex 3 be released?.
-
Rumored to be Q1 2011
-
Thats Great Thanks Phil.
-
What do you mean by "fix the clicking"?
As far as i know that clicking is the magnetic head that reads data from the platter moving around so i dont see how you could "fix" that. -
I've never had a clicking hard drive myself but I've seen many other people who had it and fixed it with tools like hdparm and Quiethdd.

I already tried some of those, but its not helping. I can still hear the silent, but annoying clicks and the low frequency vibrations the HD is giving off... My only choice is to buy another SSD. Now that i know how quiet things can be i got spoiled and cant live with the unnecessary noise anymore
.

Don´t buy Vertex 2, wait for Vertex 3! Well, but then you can also wait for Vertex 4 or Vertex 5
-

Nah I only got Sata 2 interface so I want a drive that will max out that interface and give me a decent amount of capacity for a good price. OCZ vertex 4 and 5 might be overkill but then again ocz 4 might bring some nice price drops in price/capacity ratio! -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Any news on G4, or G5 (which is when I upgrade my G2)?
We close yet to having SSD's standard in notebooks?

I hope Nordic Hardware was wrong...
IDF 2010: SandForce Using Intel 25nm MLC Flash On SSDs - SandForce SSDs Highlighted At IDF 2010 - Legit Reviews -
I hope NH is wrong too. They did acknowledge that the 25nm NAND flash was ready for Q4, but Intel was holding the G3s back for their controller and that since Intel wouldn't release that until Q1 2011, NH speculated that Intel wouldn't release the new NAND flash to competitors first.
-
hopefully speeds will be the same and less killing of the cycles cause as it writes it slows down and i hate to see that happen. luckily i will have enough to get one even... so much for sandy bridges :]
