    Hi all,

I am planning to buy this laptop which states it has an Intel GMA GL40.

    PSC09A-00G019 - Toshiba Satellite Pro C650 Notebook - Australia

I am unfamilar with this card (as I only heard for things like 4500HD etc). Tried searching on Google and it is more described as a chipset than a card (maybe I am getting confused).

What I want to know is - can this chipset play 720p videos? I presume it can't play 1080p videos?

    Any help appreciated.

Apparently is a chipset for 4500M GPU so weaker than 4500HD

GL40 is an old chipset that uses the GMA 4500HD for graphics. Intel's claim is that the 4500HD can handle the 1080p video, but keep in mind that the GL40 apparently comes with a wimpier version of that card. I would assume that it can still handle 1080p, but I'm not entirely sure. The extreme low end is like that -- you never know what exactly has been crippled.

Also, the price ($583) is a bit puzzling: this is not only end, but it is last generation low end. I guess they're more expensive in Australia.

    Thanks everyone for their help.

Everything about electronics is Australia is unfortunately very expensive. Usually, I buy stuff in the States as it is THE best place to go for electronics. But this time, I need to buy this in Australia.

I was thinking it can't play 1080p but that's fine. 720p is fine for my purposes as the screen is only 1366v768. 1080p would just be a bonus I can hook up to the TV.

    Many thanks to everyone again.
