I'm trying to get my intel GMA 950 integrated graphics (Toshiba M100/500: intel core solo, i945G) to do 1920x1200 on the external VGA port. It will do 1600x1200 & 1920x1440 but not between.

I've seen a DELL 9400 doing this on the laptops LCD with the same graphics chip, maybe this is different as its an external LCD.

The display section does say the LCD support 1920x1200, but alas i cannot change the resolution to match.

Are there any driver hacks I can do to get this working?

    cheers

does the display that you're trying to output to support 1920x1200?

try installing powerstrip, it allows you to choose custom resolutions

yes it supports 1920x1200 - dell 24" LCD.

I've tried powerstrip, but it won't select anything higher than 1600x1200. Even 1920x1440 still only outputs 1600x1200 but it's like a virtual screen you can navigate with your mouse.

I'm thinking the hardware has a limitation on the external VGA port.

    cheers anyways

According to Intel's spec sheet, the GMA950 should be capable of 2048x2536 maximum resolution. Powerstrip is probably the way to go. You also should install the .inf file for the monitor.

I'm also thinking it's the inf file for the monitor. Try and get an updated one from Dell's website. Also, check for updated drivers from Intel.

Editing the driver is not going to increase your performance, so do not think you can miraculously change your card.

You'll need to uninstall your GMA 950 drivers and get a program called CPU-Z. It will tell you what chipset you have. From there, download the correct GMA 950 driver directly from Intel.

    That might help you:

In the meantime, if you find that you still have problems I would encourage you to create a new thread instead of reviving a year old thread :p

That's because the link he provided was for desktop chipsets.

from the spec of GMA950, it is said that GMA950 can support to a max resolution,25XXx13xx. Therefore i think it is possible to solve the problem

VGA spec allows for up to 2048x1536, which the GMA 950 does support. 1920x1200 is a standard VGA mode, so this should be possible to do :err:

Oh, and one more thing...I took my D430 (with a GMA 950) to my Dell 2407 and it was perfectly fine at 1920x1200.
