The GMA900 is not bad for an integrated solution, but the X300, despite being a relatively weak dedicated card, should still be better. Perhaps even better would be a 9600, on a T42...

The X300 will be way faster than the GMA 900.

Cause the 9600 is a better card than the x300. Dothan Pentium M, like in the T42, run cooler and have less noise, but the performance is a little less. When you are gaming, the card does most of the work.

the 9600 is an radeon card? i'm not into gaming so i'm not concerned about that as much as i am video editing, forgive the total noob question if the graphics card come into play for video editing (as i think it does) is there a radical difference between the two i listed and the 9600?

i'm lost on the distinction you are drawing between the T42/43. both are available with the same processors and are, as far as i can tell, both Dothan Pentium Ms.

video editing is more processor than anything... iv got almost a gig of ram and i was surprised i was using only aroun 300-350mb ram, but 99-100 processor on certain video editing usage. dedicated Graphics card does help though by not having to cut into your system ram.

Well, if you can get the X300, go for it. The dedicated card is nice because it doesn't leech off your main system memory and doesn't take up valuable memory bandwidth.

Basically, I say get the dedicated card because it will increase your overall system performance. ;)

BTW, nice choice on a computer! :centrino: :buyIBM:

and if i can get a 9600? the price jump is definitely noticeable but there are both t42/43s available with the 9600.

The 9600 will definitely be better than the GMA900 by a long shot. If you can get that, go for it. I would avoid integrated at all costs in order to get the best possible system performance.

Basically, since the clock-per-clock difference between the CPUs on T42 and on T43 is hardly noticeable, I'd make my decision considering other factors. For example, if you want the best graphics card available on a T-series PC (excluding the expensive, yet non-gaming-oriented FireGL), you want to get a 9600, which is, as far as I know, available only on T42s. If you have seen a T43 with a 9600, please show me.

However, you're not into gaming, so it doesn't matter. Nonetheless I'd get a dedicated video card, just for the heck of it (and for not sharing your system RAM), and in case you want to do some gaming. The X300 would be fine there.

When it comes to choosing between a T42 and T43 - just go for the best deal you can get, because you can configure each with pretty much similar specs.
