Is this for an upgrade to your current CPU? If so, you probably wont notice a huge difference to be honest.

Does this mean that it is also overclockable since it's an ES and not OEM or Retail?
Looks good though, might think about fitting it in my 5796. Good find.

While past ES processors have had multipliers and/or VIDs unlocked, it seems like many more recent ES chips don't have either. It also depends on the ES revision: earlier samples are more likely to have unlocked features. Nonetheless, I'd say there's a good chance that this ES P8600 is just like any other P8600 if not a little less stable.

Even if it did have an unlocked multiplier, you won't be able to overclock it unless your BIOS supports multiplier overclocking (and even then, I'd imagine it's partly a crapshot).

Also, remember that engineering samples usually don't have a temp sensor

It seems its well worth the price. Its the cheapest I could find in ''NEW'' I paid more for a T7700 used..

Indeed its a nice price for a P8600, but looking at your sig I guess you wont notice a huge increase of performance, maybe a P9500 would be better for you.

Maybe you should post specs for her notebook then, so we know what she is upgrading from. Also, what types of things she does on the notebook? For most day-to-day applications, I wouldn't bother spending the money on upgrading the CPU as it would yield rather low benefit for the cost.

If your wife is a gamer, runs scientific calculations, develops software, etc. then it might be worth it to upgrade. You should really posts the specs of her notebook so people can determine if it is worth it.
