Wow, that's amazing. Too bad it'll cost the notebook manufacturers over $1k, which will mean we'll pay a huge premium to get a notebook with a quad-core CPU. Plus it's on par, but still not as fast as my desktop

I suppose the current NP9262, with Q6600, Q6700, Q9450, or Q9550 (the latter two not officially supported by Clevo, but entrepreneurial sorts have been dropping 'em in) doesn't count? -

They're putting desktop CPUs in a chassis big enough to be a desktop (plus underpowered mobile cards). It was a great feat to accomplish, but a desktop is more practical over a notebook that's that big. Once there's the mobile quad-cores in regular-sized notebooks, then it'll become a lot more practical. Who knows, Apple is planning a MBP revision in June, maybe they'll add support for mobile quad-cores.

Michaels, it all depends upon what you are looking for. A DR laptop tank like the 9262 is good for people that are looking for a easy-carry computer with desktop-level performance. Think college students (well, rich ones), people that travel a fair amount but don't actually need it for meetings, LAN party goes, and other such applications. It's not really the same market as a true laptop. It is a niche, but it is practical for those circumstances. I don't think anyone would say it is easier to bring a desktop somewhere than a supersized laptop.

). A desktop is nowheres near that functional.
