    Hey,

I just download an Intel RST driver v.10001046

However I don't know how to install it. There is the F6 folder which I extracted but I don't know what to do with it?

I have the following folders/ files unpacked:

F6 Install Floppy Create for 32/64 bit
RAID option for ROM and utilities for PCH desktop
    RAID config32 utility
    iata_cd
    OEM technical guide
    Release notes

The INTEL guide is not really clear for me, can anyone assist me with this?

Go inside and find the x64 or x86 directory and find the .inf file.

There might be two or more .inf files , just select either one it does not seem to matter.

Someone posted here on the forums that running install through iata_cd gives better performance than just installing the driver in device manager.

I am not sure if it's true but since then I install them through running iata_cd.

Phil, I agree with that install method.

    Just as an interesting note:

When I was trying to install the OCZ Firmware on my Inferno and I uninstalled the IRST driver (I thought) by simply deleting the ATA/ATAPI controllers in device manager and also selecting the 'delete software for this driver' option, part of the IRST driver was still running (with MS AHCI v1.0) and was still enhancing the performance as seen in my CDM scores. I thought I had forgot to delete it properly!

Running the IRST uninstaller finally removed the rogue (newer) driver and the MS AHCI results were more mundane (as we would expect them to be).

I definitely recommend the iata_cd install path.

Thanks for the answers. In the end I installed using the iata_cd way and it works fine.

Maybe it was me who posted this, but I have to correct me.
Following I found in the pdf included in the IRST 1046 full package

    Intel® Rapid Storage
    Technology
    OEM Technical Guide
For the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology 10.0 Software
    Release
    Revision 1.0

The Intel® Rapid Storage Technology software includes:
􀀀 the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver component that provides SATA
AHCI support as well as RAID capability for the supported Microsoft*
    Windows operating systems
􀀀 the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology User Interface (a 32-bit Windows
application). In RAID mode the UI provides the management interface for
    the RAID subsystem.
Note: The UI is not required in AHCI mode as it provides no management
    capability of the storage subsystem.

So I must admit I was wrong. The installation of the driver via Device Manager seems to be quite enough.

OK, through device manager will preferable then, because it saves a little time upon each boot.

    Phil,

How can it do that? Is something not loaded through device manager?

Installing through iata_cd creates a startup process that isn't installed through the device manager.

One could also disable the startup process of course.

Sevice IAStorDataMgrSvc is not installed via Device Manager install. So it has not to be started during boot.
