Intel Refutes Rumor of Licensing AMD Graphics Technology
Intel refuted a rumor spread by a technology Web site saying it is licensing graphics chip technology from AMD. The rumor had pushed up AMD shares by 12% on Tuesday, only to see the stock come crashing down by that amount on Wednesday after AMD management did not offer any mention of such a deal.
Chip giant Intel (INTC) tonight refuted rumors it is licensing graphics chip technology from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
In a statement sent to Tech Trader Daily by an Intel spokesperson, the company said "The recent rumors that Intel has licensed AMD's graphics technology are untrue."
A rumor had spread on Tuesday that AMD had won a deal to license its graphics technology to Intel, as related by Fuad Abazovic of Fudzilla, who wrote that an AMD-Intel deal was “confirmed,” without citing sources.
When AMD failed to disclose any such deal yesterday, during its annual analyst meeting to discuss its technology and financial outlook, the AMD stock was punished Wednesday.
I asked Intel if the company has any further detail on whether it has definitely decided not to license technology from AMD. The company said no further detail would be provided.
AMD shares today closed down $1.55, over 12%, at $11.20, reversing a 12% climb yesterday on the Fudzilla rumor.

"I am still sticking with my statements at this time and have no reason to suggest otherwise.
I stay far away from owning tech stocks. That would not be ethical and likely not legal in my position."Last edited: May 19, 2017Dr. AMK and don_svetlio like this. -

More light shed on Intel's Radeon powered CPU

"Update: Chipzilla is licensing AMD's graphics
Our original story about Intel licensing AMD graphics created quite an impact, with shock, horror and disbelief from the Intel, and AMD and Nvidia types.
First, we need to make something clear to our non-regular readers. Our sources are well placed, industry insiders, and we would not run the story if we didn't trust them.
Fudzilla made a career by being first with many announcements.
This time, we cannot take the credit, as it was our distinguished colleague Kyle Bennett who broke the news and we just followed his lead. Intel declined to comment at press time, but has now - see below - has denied it, and we are waiting to hear back from AMD.
After digging a bit deeper, it seems that the Intel and AMD deal will include Intel CPU's using Radeon Graphics. You can think of this as a fusion of the CPU and GPU cores or an Intel integrated CPU with better AMD powered graphics. The first products should resurface before the end of the year. It is natural that Intel will deny it all for the moment. In fact it will probably deny it until the day it launches such a product. This is it's standard procedure."Last edited: May 19, 2017 -
