What's the difference between x-25m and x-18m? What's the difference between a G1 and G2?

The X-25M is in the 2.5" drive format, the standard notebook drive size.
The X-18M is in the 1.8" drive format, a less-common notebook drive size used primarily in ultraportables/ultra-thins.
G1 means Generation 1, the first generation SSD that Intel made. These drives' casings are glossy black. The write/read speeds are slightly slower than G2 drives, and most importantly, the Intel G1 drives lack TRIM functionality (Google if you don't know what that means).
G2 means Generation 2. These drives' casings are brushed metal. The write/read speeds are slightly faster (particularly the 160GB model) than the G1 drives, and most significantly, have TRIM functionality. -

Is there a general guide for optimizing the X-18G2? I have 2 of them in a Raid0 configuration which came with my laptop. I have installed Intel Rapid Storage, but I don't see any way to apply TRIM or any other optimization utility in the Intel Rapid Storage settings window.
Is it simply that by virtue of installing the Intel RST, it is operating in the background already optimizing my drive? Do I need to download some sort of separate garbage collection or TRIM utility, or is this already running? Do I need to un-Raid them, apply the TRIM manually and then re-Raid them? -
X-25 is 2,5", X-18 is 1,8" - G1 is first generation produced at 50nm, G2 second generation produced at 34nm - and supports trim, G1 has garbage collection.

Intel currently does not support RAID + TRIM.

u cannot use TRIM with RAID... so u have to just deal with it or stop RAID and then use TRIM.

Using RAID on an SSD is almost useless... At least with an intel SSD you already have FAST read speeds...

who wouldn't want essentially DDR200 ram as their HDD?
