    Hi Everyone,

I apoligize if this topic has already been adressed (if you could just forward me a link that would be great) but could someone please explain the big difference between the T2050 vs. T2300. Most importantly, is there going to be a significant performance increase?

The reason why I ask is that I am trying to decide between the HP dv2040ca (Comes with T2050...us lowly Canadians dont get ANY choice with the HP dv2000 series) and the Dell 640m (available with T2300)

    Thanks!

i don't think that there is any really diffrences in speed at all. look at Acer's, Sony's, and other pre built rigs, these will have a better chance of haveing t2300

    hear is one

There is a slight difference because of the slower bus, but thats not gonna be a dealbreaker for most pple. Everyday peformance is not diminished, just a couple of #s in benchmarks is where ull see the difference.

If u can try and get the 2300 because of the faster bus, but the 2050 will do more than fine compared to the 2300. Also, yonahs are upgradable, so if u get the 2050 now, u can always upgrade to a faster cpu/faster bus later on or even drop in a merom in there.

    The Adventures of Spaceman Spiff!
    T2050 is 1.60 Ghz, IIRC.
    T2300 is 1.66 Ghz.

Not a huge difference. A huge difference would involve either of these and the T2500/T2600.

More importantly, what will you be doing with the notebook, and what/how many programs do you typically run at the same time? I would probably stay with the T2050.

The notebook would predominantly be used for school work (internet/office applications) and basic multimedia purposes (music/dvd). At most a typical workload would include simulatenously:

    Word/PowerPoint/Firefox (1-5 windows)/iTunes/MSN Messenger/McAfee Antivirus Suite 2006

    Would the T2050 perform adequitely?

    Cheers

That should be a walk in the park for the core duo. Just make sure you have 512MB or more RAM on that laptop, I would advise 1 GB for all that.

I agree, the T2050 will be able to do all of those applications easily. 1GB of RAM would best to ensure you don't run out of RAM.

The HP dv2000 has a far nicer design and feel than the Dell. Much less generic. The build quality and keyboard are also better. I would go for the HP if possible.

Chaz, the HP is clearly the superior choice in many regards, but I read in the featured NBR review that it's limited by a two hour battery life.

The Dell is much more business oriented. Not dreadfully plain or bland, but not designed to turn heads and have fun on either.

    Hi,

Back to the original topic regarding the T2050 vs T2300.
What if you use a 667 ram module to a laptop equipped with T2050?

Basically i am interested in buying the Asus F3Jc-AP015P which has an Mobile IntelĀ® 945PM Express Chipset which supports 667Mhz. Can I make benefit of this or is it a "the strongest point is the weakest link" situation??

    Thanks

From what I've read...it clocks it back to 533...so there's really no sense in getting ram at the 667!!

It doesn't really matter if you get DDR2-533 or DDR2-667 as posted . . if you have a T2050 or T2250 CPU, they both have 533MHz FSB's, so the RAM will downclock to match. There is no practical performance difference between 533 and 667MHz RAM.
