    Hi I was just wondering..

Will the Intel T3200 CPU that has appeared recently support Vista 64bit??
    By which I mean is it a 64bit CPU? ...I heard its a stripped Core2Duo T5750...

And how will it perform to my existing Intel Centrino Duo T2400..? which is a 1.83Ghz 32bit early dual core CPU (it has a 2mb cache.. whereas the T3200 has only 1mb)

The T3200 is a 64bit processor. It is basically a T5750 with half the L2 cache. Performance should be about equal to or a bit better than the T2400; the T2400 may have twice the L2 cache, but it is clocked slower and based on an older architecture.

The T3200 will definitely outperform the T2400. As Commander Wolf noted, the T3200 is essentially a cut-down Core 2 Duo, and the Core 2 Duo gets a lot more done per clock cycle than the Core Duo (which is based off the old Pentium M). I recently did a review of the T3200 and found it to be 10-15% slower than a 2.26GHz P8400. So, it's really no slouch and has some decent power saving features to boot. The T3200 is a very good value for the money.

You could just upgrade your t2400 to a t7200 and that would out preform the t3200 then.

Chaz as usual your the master of knowledge.! Thanks.

Yeah I was actually looking at a cheap ASUS laptop for 380euro with the T3200. I was wondering how the CPU would compare to the one in my older Toshiba. One thing I would be glad about is the 64bit support as I want to install Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Chaz do you have the link to that review you did on the T3200?

T3200 runs Vista Ultimate x64 without any issues, the only thing that may slightly dampen your experience is if the laptop doesn't come with a lot of ram (though you can fix that pretty cheap now a days) and if the video isn't all that great, a lot of T3200s are coupled with the GL40 chipset which has the slowest incarnation of the X4500 graphics core, its not terrible but it's relatively basic. I had a T3200/4gb of ram/7200 rpm drive/x4500 and it ran ultimate x64 pretty decent. I wouldn't have tried to play any serious newer games on it, but outside of that for a "productivity" notebook its a great setup. The T3200 really is a LOT faster than its lowly model designation might suggest.

The ASUS laptop I was looking at has an integrated Geforce 8200. So I know for gaming this will be weak BUT for a 380euro ASUS 15inch notebook thats pretty good. And I know that the 8200 can take most of the work off the CPU for HD video..probably better than what the Intel integrated solution can do..

I do; I can't link you to it since it's on my website and we don't allow members here to link to their own sites. Putting "T3200 Review" in Yahoo Search will get you to it though.

Out of the laptops you suggested, I'd go with the cheaper one unless you need more than 160GB of space. RAM is a cheap and easy aftermarket upgrade. You can also upgrade the hard drive yourself later on.
