Is it a bad idea to choose this cpu? From Intel's site, it shows the cpu as missing all the features that the other Centrino is getting:
    http://www.intel.com/distributed/modules/sitelets/centrinopro_spec.htm

no dual-core (yes, that is what the chart says), no virtualization, no enhanced speedstep, no 64 bit computing, no execute disable bit...

your opinions please! i also cannot find any benchmark for this cpu, any help?

Here is an Intel link that says it does support some of those (all but VT). It is clearly "dual core" so that Centrino chart is clearly wrong or incomplete.

so is this an okay cpu? compared to T7250 (2.0 ghz 800mhz), how much difference would i notice? the T5550 is 667mhz i think...

how much difference depends on what you do.

Yes it will be almost impossible to tell the difference real world. Most apps do not push either so you will not see a difference. The 7250 is 9% faster if absolutely being maxed. So if you encode a video and it takes 10 minutes w/7250, 5550 might take 10 minutes 55 seconds and I doubt even that.

My guess is that the T5550 is about 10% slower than the T7250 in normal use, so you would need a stop-watch to be able to measure the difference.

Here is another useful Intel table and this Intel chart shows that the T5550 (8th from bottom) is the T5600 without VT.

does the 800mhz of the T7250 means that i can use 800mhz memory? or is it still limited to 667mhz memory?

It will not run at 800Mhz. You can use but 667Mhz is the best you will get at this time. AMD has some that will (mine :p ).

800Mhz means you can use it only on intel 965 chipsets. Do not confuse t7200 with 667 fsb and t7250 with 800mhz fsb.

T7250 can be used with 800 mhz, 667, 553mhz memory modules. T7200 cpu works with any ddr2 memory, but 800mhz memory bandwithc will be limited to 667mhz.

The T7250 and T7200, will work with any of those RAM modules, but the 800Mhz will downclock for both CPUs anyway.

yes, neither chipset does support 800mhz effective memory, actually no notebook on the market does yet. The new monteveina ones will push the memory bandwidth higher, but those are not available yet.

Also please do not revive such old posts
