Anyone tried buying from this guy at ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-Centrino-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9e539b78 ??

I live in the Philippines and I want to buy this card. Only eBay and Provantage have them. Provantage won't accept Mastercard credit cards for some reason. So I'm stuck with eBay but I'm hearing things that wireless cards in eBay are almost all ES especially when they come from China or Hongkong, I don't know.

    I hope someone can clarify.

    Thanks.

Not all are ES, but many are. This is very new and I doubt they would be able to get their hands on regular ones. Also many people have 0 problems with using ES wireless cards.

but ES cards are stolen and intel property... better stay away from them and save urself trouble with them not working and other legal problems... ur better off getting an OEM one... Anyways , if u really have no problems , why not get 5300 which is quite good to? Also what laptop do u have? Some laptops like my Hp and lenovo blacklist wireless cards in BIOS so u can't use them.

I think he is referring to non-ES WiFi Link 6300 cards.

He's talking about the OEM ones. Like the others mentioned above, it's better to go with the genuine article rather than the ES. Even though there are many people that have ES wireless cards in their notebooks, they all most likely have the final revision of the card before it was stamped over with the OEM badge. Just like ES CPU's, early revisions of wireless cards are junk; I've juggled a few early ES 3945's and 4965's back then and I can tell you that they suck.

6300 is IEEE 802.11n compliant, 5300 only implements the draft. (I dunno if Intel released a firmware update for the 5300 that brought full 802.11n compliance.)

    6300 is a bit smaller.

In any case, differences are marginal. OP, please enlighten me if I missed something.

The draft and final spec of 802.11 N are completely identical.

Well, there has to be some improvements with the final N.

Actually the final N is the same as the draft was for at least the past couple of years. They could never agree on it but finally relented and just accepted the draft that has been floating around all this time because it was already ubiquitous. Changing anything about it at such a late phase in the game would cause tons of problems. If there are any differences, it is nothing that changes anything important or that matters at all as far as the end user is concerned.

No, they are not. 802.11n is different even from Draft 2.0. (although differences are v small.)

I need some help here, I think I've screwed up. I bought 6300 from the same guy you mentioned on ebay thinking I'm buying the best and latest wireless card. I wanted to upgrade my Dell wirless card from wireless G to wireless N.

2 mistakes: my laptop has only 2 antennas, not 3. My laptop came fitted with a mini PCIe card, not a half mini.

I still managed to install the card, but I was only getting 130Mb/s bandwidth with my Netgear WNDR2000 router.

BUT... the most serious problem is that the laptop is freezing occasionally since I installed the card. At first it was freezing very rarely, but yesterday it froze 3 times in a day. Could it be a fake card ? What is ES ?

Thanks Kevin. Sorry for cross posting. I just contacted seller. Let's see how it goes. I was just curious if it is OK to install a half mini-PCIe card on my laptop if my old card was a full mini-PCIe card.

Haven't done that but IMO your card is an ES. I'm glad I haven't fell for that ebay guy.

With only two antennas, your 6300 basically became a 6200 as it doesn't have the third support antenna for the full 450Mbps bandwidth. Did your mini PCI-E slot have the mounting hole for half mini cards? Your card may not be making full contact with the pins in the socket.

If you want to buy a 5300, I have one in full size for sale.

I'm not really interested in bandwidth at the moment. I'm more interested in range and power consumption. I suppose there is no way to add a third antenna. The laptop didn't freeze as yet today. (fingers crossed) I managed to solve the blinking LED problem through the registry. (LED was blinking during activity.) I still think the card I bought is an ES. It's a pity there is no easy way to prove that it's an ES. The laptop I installed it on is a Dell Inspiron 6400. I don't think it has a mounting hole for half mini cards unfortunately. I'm not sure about this.

You can add a third antenna. They sell generic ones on Ebay that you can put in your laptop. I am using one right now to get the third antenna for my 5300.

u can add an antenna as trottel said... but buy a proper sized card first... also , those freezes might be caused by driver problems...

I'm thinking about adding either a 5100 or 6200 to my Inspiron 6400 as well - did the antenna connectors stretch to the half mini card ok? Looks like Intel won't release a full mini 6200/6300 card. If it won't work, I'll end up with the full mini 5100.

it most probably won't work so ur actually better off getting the 5100 which will work... what's the problem with the 5100... if u really want something better , get the 5300.. u'll get it in full size...

    Hi to everyone!
I just replace my old Atheros (I've a G73Jh-A2) with this new 6300 wireless module but it won't work. The network adapter has been correctly installed by Windows 7 Ultimate but the Intel's utilities can't find it and I have no other system to configure the adapter.

I installed the latest Intel drivers from the support site...

    Cheers,

What notebook did you install it in?
Then go to the control panel, device manager and look up the device properties, see if you can find any conflicts or errors, like error code 10 device
    can not start...

Hi and... thanks for your reply!
At the end, I got it running but it seems work at half speed... look at these pictures:

I ran a few of benchmarks (SiSoftware Sandra) and it goes slower than previous adapter but I can't set it to 802.11n.

Does anyone found a working driver version? I am using the latest from Intel official repository but performances are very poor

    Thanks.

Check the speed 1m from the router, and check what the router settings say too unless you have other devices on it running at high speed

    Hi and thanks to both,
so my router has working as with the older Atheros, WPA2 protection settings and best performance settings. I am with a Belkin N1 model and the benchmark posted above scored twince with the older adapter.
Somebody using a different Wireless drivers?

    P.S: Here's my Wireless settings:
