First time with an SSD and am wondering what the hell's going on. One example is I'll try to delete a file on my desktop, but Windows will say it's not there.

Are there any firmware updates that might fix any bugs or improve performance?

Try hitting F5 from the desktop. Seriously, Windows is a little...odd...sometimes.

What the hell? That fixed it. Why do I need to refresh for something like this?

And Microsoft Security Essentials is taking unusually long to install!

It's normal behavior - sometimes, the icon cache doesn't refresh, is my guess.

    Patience is a virtue :)

Best ways to test if your SSD is working properly: use the Intel SSD Toolbox and verify that all the SMART specs look normal; use CrystalDiskMark to benchmark your SSD and test read/write speeds and make sure they're normal.

Never had this problem with my 320gb Toshiba 7200RPM 2.5" drive. But I'm seeing this issue come up on my Intel X-25M.

Is there a fix for this? I've installed the toolbox, but I dunno how to install the firmware which comes as an iso.

It's more of a Windows bug than anything. It happens on my HDD-powered desktop a lot.

You probably did something (or didn't, or the moon was in perfect alignment with Pluto and Earth) in the reinstall or clone of your system.

Dammit. I'm just a moderate user. I installed all the necessary HP drivers for my Envy on top of the Windows updates. Still have this issue.

    To update your drive firmware:
1.- Make sure all your data is backed up. You never know, you may brick your drive, in which case Intel can replace it (but you will lose all data).
2.- Make sure your laptop is plugged in, with the battery inserted as well.
3.- Burn the latest firmware .ISO onto a blank CD.
4.- Insert CD and reboot, following the prompts. The firmware updater will automatically check if you have the latest firmware. If you do, it will tell you and reboot the computer. If not, it will update the firmware. Do not, under any circumstances, interrupt the updating process until it tells you to, otherwise you could end up with an expensive paperweight.

Will do. I'm realizing my i5-520M was already really fast to begin with, so I don't notice a super duper performance improvement unless I'm loading office (cuts down load times by 1-2 seconds) or L4D2.

    Really...
If Office is taking more than 1 second to load your SSD is probably not working correctly.

Make sure you back up your data before attempting to upgrade to any new firmware. Doing it wrong can brick your drive (and thus any data on that drive).

Attempted the update. Burned the iso onto an extra blank dvd I had lying around, but found that my SSD was already updated.

It takes about a second give or take a couple of tenths of a second. Per Intel's own recommendation from its Toolbox software, I've disabled superfetch.

change boot options to CD/DVD, burn firmware onto DVD or USB, then boot to DVD. Then again, I never got a chance to update my SSD since it was already updated.
