    Does anyone know when the G2 X18-M is supposed to be released? The X25-M has been out for a while now (though admittedly in mixed supply), but I haven't seen anything about the release of the 1.8" model, which I'd thought was supposed to happen at the same time. I've tried scouring the web, but can't find any details about dates. Thanks!

    Macmall told me they would have the 80GB version in stock around 10/24.

    @mrblur Note how that's the X25? I'm asking about the 1.8" version...
    @sleey0 Hmm, thanks. I hope that's accurate. I guess I can wait that much longer.

    Check out ZZF (Zipzoomfly), don't know if they have it in stock, but last time I checked, they had the cheapest X18-Ms (G2).

    @sgogeta4 They do have pretty cheap prices, but I've yet to see it in stock, and I'm on the "notify me" list for when they do. They don't seem to have preorders, and I'm not sure I would, if I don't know when it's coming. I can't say I've ever ordered from them, and resellerratings.com doesn't rate them particularly highly. Cost central doesn't have a price that's a lot more, and has much higher ratings (never ordered from them, either).

    @Generic User 2: I need it to go in a 1.8" drive bay on a laptop. The 1.8" hdd is fairly slow. If I'd known it would take this long, I might have held out and waited for the Arrandale release. :(

    The majority of netbooks with HDDs use 1.8", as well as some other non-netbook ultraportables. These 1.8" drives are usually 4,200 RPM, and as pem69 mentions, generally pretty damn slow.

    I wouldn't buy anything from ZZF. They are well known for their terrible customer service and shystering people out of their money running "deals" only to renege on them.

    As a backup, there's the Runcore ProIV 1.8" sata SSD. It uses the Indilinx Barefoot controller, so can be consider to be like a 1.8" OCZ Vertex, if such a thing existed. It's 4kb read/write speeds are similar to a Intel X25M G2 as shown here. Questionable value at US$230 for 64GB, the pricepoint we'd expect a X18M G2 80GB to be at.

    What he said.

    Hmm. Interesting. I'd be more interested in the 128G over the 64G, since I want to dual-boot (Windows+Linux), and the 64G is a bit tight for both of those considering how greedy the former is. The price also isn't great, as you mention. I'm also pretty interested in TRIM support - I read the Anandtech article a while back, but if memory serves there wasn't going to be a firmware update for the Indilinx drives?

    Has anyone seen any news on the G2? Think it will be out by the end of the year? Any thoughts?

    I'm also suspicious because the image is wrong. The G2 is supposed to be silver, not black, like the G1.
