    Myes, was eyeing the $9000 4TB version. Kinda hoping to build a system out of that; X99 + E7-8893 v3 + 256GB DDR4 + gpu xyz. Not sure about the gpu(s) yet; 32GB FirePro S9170, 24GB M6000, 24GB K80 or 2x 12GB K6000?

Too bad it's such a hassle to convince management ... they don't understand the potential until you show the results, which is practically impossible to accomplish without a decent system. Chicken or egg, really :vboops: .

SanDisk has 3d vnand out for sale right now and has for I think 6 months.

Intel usually sells micron nand and they are working on getting 3d vnand to market. Likely Intel will sell it first.
What they can make are controllers.

The point is Intel makes nothing.

To try to simplify it the only company that makes everything is Samsung. About 5 companies make the memory similar companies to who makes ram.
A smaller number make the controllers the firmware is big too.

    E7 doesn't work with X99?

You'll also need some Xeon Phis. ;)

Ah, thanks, but too bad. C612 is fine too, but many are dual or quad boards and was hoping for a 'normal', non-rack build. Did find this nice, diminutive board that looks perfect for my project. Almost too cheap, considering the cost of the peripherals ... Really, just looking for any excuse to snap up this crazy quad core; it should do great for simple crunching stuff.

Looks like Intel has a new budget line of SSDs out, the Intel 540s. So far, the data available makes them look very, very uninspiring.
