For 3D development I can understand and appreciate Intel and nVidia. But AMD has decided to dump the desktop market in favor of the mobile market, and a smart move considering Intel has such a huge advantage. For the mobile market, a single chip solution makes more sense and AMD has the advantage no doubt. For gaming pretty much any modern CPU is more than adequate (well aside from the ULV type CPU's).

According to this article, the new Playstation 4 will be powered by an AMD's A8-3850 APU and Radeon HD 7670 GPU.

So, lol, my laptop is basically a PS4 and Xbox 720...

Good news for AMD though if it's true. However, why a Llano part and not the upcoming Trinity?

AMD is catching up. Bulldozer was their biggest mistake and I think that all processors from then on will be a response for the better.

I think it would be great to see AMD power all three consoles. Would drive up their revenue considerably, allowing for more development, AKA catching up to Intel.

I'm sure their pricing is very competitive. It may be the break AMD needs.

For general tasks and gaming, an AMD system would definitely be the way to go.
But for 3d design/art, an Intel/Nvidia system would be the better option.
And hey, even when it comes to certain computational tasks, the AMD can more or less be applicable given it being on par with at least an i5 - so it's not exactly worthless in that regard.

But I agree that AMD needs to get their act together and be more competitive in the CPU area.
It's one thing to focus on gpu performance, but it's hard to justify when no professional developer will touch gpu accelerated computations on an AMD card.
