Which processor is the best based on performance, stability, battery consumption and heat?

    Thank you.

    performence, get the i7.

Stability wise, they should be the same.

Heat and battery life, the T9600 should win.

What will you be doing with the notebook?
And how much are you paying for each?

Core i7 will own T9600 anytime..however moral i wouldn't be so sure that the core i7 would give less battery life considering its new tech and generally more efficient.. and even if it gave less battery life you could get a bigger battery. Core i7 is the way to go now if you want more performance although i want a D900F :)

    the T9600 is 35W, while the i7 is 45 W.

So it's likely the T9600 will be better for battery life, but as sean473 said, it's new tech so it may have an advantage.

I would take the t9600 with a high end gpu over a i7 with a crap gpu, unless you don't game at all.

Sure.. but all things being equal, I wouldn't even consider the t9600.. The i7 eats it for breakfast in almost every situation, except for say, power consumption. :)

Wouldnt the I7 with turbo off in bios consume less power?
And when he needed the boost he could turn it back on?
I think Im learning, but I may be wrong?

Well what are the rest of the specs of the laptops containing these CPUs? What are their prices? What are the laptops to be used for?

An i7 is most definitely more powerful, there's no doubt about that however, it could easily be overkill and a waste of money depending on what your uses or the other specs of the machine.

If you use any program that can utilize all the cores/threads, i7 will dominate the C2D. Even if a program can't, the i7 wouldn't be far behind since it can Turbo Boost. I would think that on the battery, the i7 would use less power (and hence heat) than the C2D since it can turn off 3 cores and has fairly aggressive power management. Plus, it's typically cheaper (at least per 1000 from Intel). But on A/C power, if the CPU is fully loaded, the i7 will consume significantly more power (and heat) than the C2D, but it gets work done a lot faster, so overall the difference in power consumption might not be so much.

I'm planning to buy the dell studio 15 with i7 with 1080 led screen and 9 cells battery for 1339$ CAD. But the graphic card (ati 4570 512mb) is bugging me a little. Will i be able to play recent games with it?

Should i consider the studio XPS 16 with i7 that comes with a Ati 4670 1GB for 80$ more? Will the gpu be that much better that it will compensate for the 1lbs heavier?

Finally, what are the difference between this screen : 15.6” Full High Definition (1080p) High Brightness LED Display with TrueLife™ (in studio 15) and this screen : HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1680x945) (in XPS 16)

Also, is the build quality better on the XPS?

Thank you very much for your help!!!

The GPU in the XPS 16 will be much better than the Studio 15. The thing is for most games, you don't need such a powerful CPU. If you really want to game on your laptop, there are many other choices with even better GPUs. Maybe fill out the FAQ so that we can better help you.

For the same price (1419$ CAD) i don't find any laptop that have the same specs (see specs below) and build quality as the xps.

    Specs :
    Intel ® Core ™ i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1680x945) W/2.0 MP
    4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB
8X Slot Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive)
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Dell Wireless 1397 802.11b/g Half Mini-Card

The Force 1656 might be a contender but is not out now and i need my laptop really soon. Also i have to say that the laptop i will buy needs to be not too heavy (7lbs-) and have decent battery life (3.5hrs +). Also, i'd prefer it to have a conservative look (not like alienware, for example). If you know any alternative I'll be glad to look at them.

Thank you for your help and quick replies!

If you want your laptop really soon, I'm not sure the Studio XPS 16 would be a good choice. I was considering purchasing that laptop too, but after following the thread in the Dell subforum regarding cancelled/delayed orders, I decided against it. Several people ordered the laptop when it first came out (a month ago?) and still no one has received it yet.

I need to get my laptop within 60 days and i think that Dell will be able to deliver it to me by that time.

Beside the delayed orders, what are the alternatives to the Dell Studio XPS 16?

It depends what your needs are and what your budget is really. Have you tried the "What notebook should I buy?" forum? If not, perhaps try filling out the FAQ and seeing. If you already have a thread, link us to it and we'll see what we can do :)
