    To be honest on single threaded apps which most common ones are it's going to be close. I would say within 5-10% of each other. Now multi threaded is far different. In the new core duos they can help up to like 30/40% more when using programs that take advantage. So you have to figure core duo is the way to go. I can tell you I play games on it and multitask like no other. It truly does help, programs minimize faster, and general responsiveness is more fluid. 740 will probably start dropping in price further because dual core technology is here to stay. Hope that breaks it down for you better, I would still highly recommend the duo if your not on a strict budget. I may get arguments on this one, but if you have used a core duo for awhile it's definately a big plus to have that extra power when you need it.
