I have a machine in for sevice with i5-3337 hd 4000 graphics, it just stopped powering on.
I dont know if they can fix it, so have looked at a replacement at same price I payed for it. I found one with Core i3-7100U and HD Graphics 620.

Im guessing the new one is better despite being i3?

They are both dual-core chips, but that i3 will be more power efficient and have somewhat better performance. So another yes.

The newer CPU is slightly better (~9% single core performance), the graphics are the big 'upgrade' here. ;)

Overall, depending on the workload/workflow it is used for it should be a good replacement for the old platform.

What are your workloads/workflows? What is the absolute cost for the new system? For a few dollars more, you may be able to get double or more performance from your old setup.

The old pc is returned to shop since it stopped powering on. If they cant fix it they will ship something similar in price. It was a barebone that I put 8GB ram (max) in and a ssd.

It worked fine for me, office, bitstream video a little photo editing. It could be slowish editing some video. Connected with a monitor and a tv in another room.

Since the new barebones (mini-pc) now use ddr4 or ddr3l ram, Ill have to consider cost of new ram also.

Good news about the i3 then, not a downgrade.
