not sure on temps, i haven't looked at realtemp or coretemp yet.

i did however played with cpugenie for about 3 min right after i found out rmclock was fubar. there's still too many bugs though. there was only one multiplier option at 6x and the lowest voltage option at 0.71v. i didn't know what to do on this platform yet so i simply used the optimizing wizard on cpugenie, and after 3 sec of stress testing, it BSOD. basically, i only used it for 3 min, so i'll have to look into it more after i get home from work tomorrow.

hmm looks like we can't use cpugenie yet,,
but I'm really curious about the i5's temperature :D

Does anyone know of any program like RMClock which can display your cpu speed in system tray? I currently use RealTemp to show the CPU and GPU temps, but I can't seem to find one that shows the processor speed in the systray.

Also, in terms of the quad core, does anyone know which cores get shut down, and which get oc'd when turbo boost kicks in?

Are there any laptops using the i7-620M currently? Or is it a bit of a useless chip?

Thanks for the link, the i7 620M looks quite interesting, it can go up to 3.33Ghz o_O I cant wait to see actually comparisons between these arrandale & the C2D or C2Q!

ok here are some temps. these new chips looks a little on the toasty side. it's around 50C just idle, and 80C load.

    idle
    [IMG]

and notice how coretemp thinks my chip is an ES. probably because these new chips are not recognized yet.

    load
    [IMG]

cpugenie can't be used. there's no other multiplier option other than 6x, and even if i change the voltage up, it'll BSOD.

thanks for the link! trying to make sense of it since it's in a different language, but i think the graphs are sufficient

Those temps worry me. Might I suggest you clean your laptop from bloatware and flash the BIOS whenever you can?

My i7 720QM has lower temps, at 42 or so on idle. And can drop to 32 if room temp is a tad lower, and on battery.

It would be great if you can add the i5-430 to the main page, because it belongs to the i5 line up.

Why would you want to 'downgrade' your computer?

i just like the option to.
i was thinking maybe sell my 720qm and get an i5/i7 with a much higher clock, if benches show better performance and i can get a good price

I think you should be able to, although you might need a firmware/BIOS update, and you almost certainly won't be able to use the integrated GPU.

As compatibility goes, I see it possible, since the PM55 does recognize Arrandale, but a BIOS flash will be needed, and a lot of tweaking for the IGP to be recognized...in other words, you would only get the CPU. I have also wondered this, but remember i5 can only get 2 RAM channels, so no luck with the Envy and laptops as such

what about the other way around?
an i5 upgrading to an i7. you think it possible?

which generations? Both Arrandale? Yes, it should be possible. To Clarksfield I am not sure, there are the heat and consumption constraints to be dealt with.

For example a 90W PSU and a high end GPU work with i5, perhaps with i7d, but it will most likely throttle Clarksfield.
