I have a laptop with i7-Q740 which scored 7.1 in the Windows 7 Experience Index, replaced by a newer laptop with i7-2670QM which, to my surprise scored 4.3 !!! The CPU Mark is 6783 for the i7-2670QM and 3579 for the i7-Q740.
Should I just ignore the Windows 7 Experience Index? Or should I keep my old laptop![]()

The second gen 2670qm is better than the first gen 740qm.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Uhh WEI is super flawed, I would ignore that score, you can run consecutively with no hardware changes and it'll spit out a different number.
But as the above poster said, a 2670QM will smoke a 740QM. -
Passmark Processor Benchmark:
740QM: 3579
2670QM: 6783
Also, take a look at the individual WEI scores.
I get 6.9 with my i5. -
2670 is much better, but the 740 is more than adequate for nearly everything you'd need to do with it.

Probably you have run 2760 in the battery mode (power saver).
My 3 yr-old T9900 scores 6.6 in WEI.

WEI is mostly irrelevant. If you want a better understanding, you'll have to look at proper benchmarking, such as PCMark7 (or Passmark). In case you're wondering, I have both scores in the sig below.

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Was it your laptop score or your CPU score? If you had a 740QM and a good GPU you could score 7.1 overall while something (slow hard drive or weak GPU) could cut down your other scores (Gaming or Desktop) bringing down the overall score, since the overall score is equal to the lowest mark you achieve. If it's a low graphics score, the test might also have been run on your integrated graphics.
And if it's a low CPU score with your laptop plugged in and in high performance mode, it's probably just WEI being wonky. That happens too.
Intel i7-Q740 better than i7-2670QM ?
