According to that link my CPU has 2 cores and 4 threads but my gadget shows 4 cores >>>![]()
So which is correct?

Two cores with hyperthreading. Some apps see the virtual cores as full cores.
Beamed from my G2 Tricorder -
Seconded. You can also go into the bios and turn hyper threading off and see what the gadget shows then.

That option may not be available depending on the laptop. Anyways, a quick and easy way to tell is to open the task manager and check under the performance tab. It will say that your CPU has 2 physical cores and 4 logical cores meaning it is a dual core. It's the physical core count that you want to look at.

tijo is referring to Windows 8 Task Manager. Anyway, like everyone else said it's a dual-core with Hyper-Threading. Here's further confirmation: ARK | Intel® Core⢠i5-430M Processor (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz)

Yes, I noticed that after posting, I booted my windows 8 drive this morning at work. There is a way to check in Windows 7 as well, I remember that much, but I guess I'll have to look for it again.
The fact that you use a gadget should have been a giveaway that you were on Windows 7, but somehow, I didn't make the connection at the time of my initial post. At worse CPU-Z will tell you everything you wanted to know about your CPU and more. -
Haha I use Desktop Gadgets in Windows 8.
Intel® Core? i5-430M Processor(DUAL CORE OR QUAD CORE) ??
