Intel really has to adjust their naming convention, when the i9 launches they literally throw logic out the window.
And yes I am prepared for you die-hards to tell me that 77xx is a i7 and 78xx and 79xx is a i9, but it still makes no sense.ChanceJackson, triturbo and Dr. AMK like this. -

1TFLOP performance from a single 'consumer' CPU before the year is out. I really, really hate it when Intel drags their heels like this.

Amd finally put something out that made intel have to work for performance crown last time this happened we got core 2 and then nahalem

Nah, nothing's changed.
But 1TFLOP performance is a milestone for a 'semi' consumer CPU, no?

Dr. AMK, no comments or conclusions from you on this video?
I won't watch it (it is obviously biased based on the first 10 seconds... featuring Linus), but let me guess.
i9 isn't what he expected from Intel (regardless of how it actually performs for the workloads it is suited for).
Am I right?

I'm using Intel in 90% of my systems since 1982. The new AMD 1800x is a beast at multithread performance, but in the same time the new intel i9 7900x multithreaded performance is very impressive and does beat out the 1800x in almost everything. I'll wait to see how Threadripper will do and I think it will be serious fight, specially that Intel bringing the server technologies to the competition, we have just wait and see who will win that fight.
The Intel old school engineers and management was focusing all the time on how to deliver the best technologies to the market, but the new management in my opinion are focusing how to make more money, they are confused after AMD flagships appears, and they are making some mistakes.
I don't market to any You-tubers, I just like some of their works, and the comedian way that they performing to give the information.tilleroftheearth likes this. -

I hate watching TV (commercials...)... Watching youtube wannabes? Like I've died and gone straight to h$$$.
I guess I have a different perspective of what is 'comedy'. When I want info; I want it distilled, complete and with no BS. Preferably as a PDF too.

Dr. AMK, you wouldn't have the links for the first 4 editions from John L. Hennessy by any chance?

So; Intel is still on top on June 21, 2017?
Yeah; I knew that.

Dr. AMK, thank you so much!
I didn't expect this today and certainly not so quickly either! You've made my day.
If it's not too much trouble and you have the time, I would appreciate the 1st and 2nd editions just as much.
Thanks again.

Sorry the browser picked up the video from another thread. It first refused to move the video post with an error then did that. Now all fixed.

It seems this is no longer leaked information (even the OP is posting current real information), so I have renamed the thread as real actual benchmarks and information is available.

Agreed as of late, it is Intel bashing season. It is funny as these other guysn did not join the band wagon until Linus and that one other guy did so. Now it is a free for all.

I haven't found a good review of the i9 CPU's yet, they all bash the Intel release (1st of 3(?)), except for this one that has some positive, but he can't find the 7820x that he likes from the release - so he comes off on that and more as not positive either

In short, disable hyperthreading in the BIOS until you can get a BIOS / microcode update to fix the errata.

Also note that if you do keep up with BIOS updates; the fix may already be in place.

My question would be since the HT errata was known since April with a fix is the new x299 platform devoid of the issue? That would be a good reason to sneak that in then with the lower end Kabylakes etc..

Wow, that stinks. I was familiar with the only 8 pin issue as it had been mentioned much earlier. That was the issue with looking at the 12,14,16 and 18 core variants, delivering power to the board and through the socket. Hopefully they get a clue too before the x399's come out so a similar issue is not there as well.

Hearing that the single 8-pin power cable is running that hot at the PSU and could catch fire in a closed case (tested in open rig) is enough for me to wait until the board vendors get their act together.
His advice to wait 2+ months before getting a high-end x299 main board, probably wait until 2nd rev x299 mainboards are released, sounds about right.
Hopefully word will get back to the x299 mainboard vendors and they can rev new x299 mainboards sooner.Last edited: Jul 2, 2017 -
Again though this is if you plan to overclock, but I would say also plan to upgrade the CPU.

Rest In Peace X299, not Soldered IHS, Crap thermal Paste, P state bugs with BIOS due to the TDP efficiency in advertising and limiting OEMs for the same vs Performance, High temps due to the former & latter, Not so great IPC & Now we have another LOL..
Intel just wants money cash milking with the stupid RAID (VROC) extortion, High pricing with super less lanes, Blow warranty if you OC or not due to Delid, i5 and not HT X series with non Quad Channel KBL. Internet mob..go go go
Thanks to da man - der8auer for his insights on the most crucial things, no B$ straight to the point as always.Last edited: Jun 29, 2017 -

I highly doubt we will see 5.0 GHz. Now it does though seem to be based on the 2nd stepping but I think that may have been what was needed to get 2 or more CCX clusters to work properly. I think this is why the 1920 and 1950x show up as Summit Ridge and stepping 1. The CPU's were made but AMD knew there was a problem. So now TR and Epyc are stepping 2 of the CCX cluster and are Whitehaven. I may be wrong but this is my thought as of now with the limited info we have.
