Anandtech's Intel's 3rd Generation X25-M SSD Specs Revealed
was hopping for sata 6Gbps.
I also was hopping for a little improvement.
Intel X25m G2 has been great, main reason i was waiting for 200+gb G3, do you guys is think is worth waiting?

Too bad for increased power consumption, but everything else was expected. IMO get the SSD whenever you need it since it will always get better and cheaper in the future, so you'll be waiting forever if you want the next best thing. The main benefit should be price with the lower manufacturing process, but still I would expect to pay at least $1.5/GB (current low is around $2/GB for similar drives), so a 300GB drive could easily be around $500. I'm also curious how their new eMLC technology is. I know they wanted to decrease price while increasing capacity, but SLC has been tried and true for the past few decades. From a business point of view, I think I'd rather get the Micron P300, even if it's more expensive and only has half the capacity. Lifespan is much larger at the highest capacity, higher performance and lower power consumption:

This is nice, but strangely enough, none of it really matters. All I want to know is what price they will sell the 300GB variety for. If they could push the price down to $1/GB, I'd be perfectly happy even if they left all of the other G2 specs untouched. If not, then the SSD will still need an auxiliary hard drive for storage and that is not acceptable in all but the largest laptops.

Increased power usage? That sucks.

G2:
Total 4KB Random Writes (Drive Lifespan) 7.5TB - 15TB
G3:
Total 4KB Random Writes (Drive Lifespan) 30TB - 60TB
4X as much, which is very nice.
Not so good about 2x the power consumption though.
But if they offer the 300 GB at the same price as the 160GB G2 im using now, it will be a must buy for me. Seems like it got a great performance boost too. -
I highly doubt they will reduce costs by 50%... I honestly don't think SSDs will hit that price/GB until G5 (maybe G4), but hey if I'm proven wrong, we all still win...

My guess/hope is that the G3 160gb would be $399 MSRP instead of $499 currently, retailing probably around $349, probably the 300GB should be around $599, since the C300 is close with retail around $550.
