Well Im not sure which to choose. Will the Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T600 (2.16ghz) outperform the Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2500
(2.0 GHz) By a lot . Im not sure If its worth the $ 225 US. to change from a T2500 to a T2600. Will the performance be that much better?

It will SLIGHTLY - mostly seen in CPU intensive programs.

IMO it's not worth the price premium...put the extra cash towards more RAM...that'll make a performance difference.

Ive already chossent to upgrade to 2 gb! I just need a decent video card that will run most new games but everywhere I look it seems that either it has the perfect specs but lacks the video card or it has the video card and everything else makes the price shoot up past 20OO :)

I agree with TheUndertow. $225 USD isn't worth the minimal speed difference between the T2500 and T2600. I would invest that money instead in a HD and RAM. Be sure to get a fast 7200RPM HD.

Well let's just comment on the full range of Core Duos, depending on CPU intensive needs & budget, it may not be worth getting more than the 1.67 or 1.83GHz. Check out what Dell is charging for CPU upgrades on their D820:

    Intel® Core™ Duo T2300 (1.67GHz) 667Mhz Dual Core [Included in Price]

    Intel® Core™ Duo T2400 (1.83GHz) 667Mhz Dual Core [add $170 or $4/month2]

    Intel® Core™ Duo T2500 (2.00GHz) 667Mhz Dual Core [add $300 or $8/month2]

    Intel® Core™ Duo T2600 (2.16GHz) 667Mhz Dual Core [add $580 or $15/month2]

I'd go for the 1.83GHz if you are looking for price/performance. Getting even the T2500 means paying a premium, and the T2600 is obscene - you're paying more than $1/MHz.

Intel and AMD processors are always expensive at the top-end (Intel moreso with their models, AMD only really charges signifigantly more for the FX series) because that's the cutting edge of technology and you pay for it. I would beef up some of the other components before you do the CPU.

I'm with Chaz there for the majority of users...& T2600 is obscenely priced at present.

In addition to being much more expensive, the faster Core Duo will generate more heat and drain more power, right?

Not much. They are all manufactured to meet the same power and heat outputs. In most cases, the increase would be insignificant.

Intel's new Merom (mobile) and Conroe (desktop), er, Core2 processors are going to be shipping this summer, so a lot of retailers will be looking to unload excess inventory of Core chips. If you truly want to upgrade your CPU, just wait for the Core2 chips to come out and then slap on in place of your Core. That will give you a much bigger upgrade-per-dollar than just another Core...

I can't remember if Conroe or Merom is hitting shelves first, but the latest would be late August, I believe...

Merom will indeed be released in August according to Intel's schedule, but I don't think we'll see it shipping in notebooks until September/October.

I'd go "cheap" on the core for now, with plans to drop in a merom later. Why spend the big $$$ if you know you're going to upgrade 6 months from now?
