I will be buying a new laptop shortly (don't know if I will get XP Pro, Vista or Vista 64) and would like your thoughts on the importance or lack of importance of a separate video card versus many machine come with and intergrated video card and shared memory.
I am not a gamer and I am not a CADD type user. I basically use the machine for all of the Office applications (heavy on email but use all the others), internet access, some small amout of picture editing, Adobe Acrobat Professional, buring CDs with Roxio and scanning docments with Scansoft Paperport.
Please tell me how important the separtae video card is in your opinion.![]()

For those uses an integrated card is enough. You will get more battery life and a cooler system (less fan noise).

you dont need a seperate video card. integrated would do fine, you can even play lots of older games on it, the current intel integrated cards are quite powerful compared to what integrated cards used to be

Thanks for the responses, it sounds like everyone agrees that I can save the money on the video card
