Is this possible? To get a better internal cooling fan for your laptop?

Doubt it, you can probably get replacements though.

So an external cooling fan is the only option?

I recommend a cooling pad like the Zalman NC-1000

You won't really be able to do this.

These aren't desktops.
The fan that it comes with is the one you're stuck with. You can get a replacement like lawlz said, but you can't buy an aftermarket one that's gonna cool better like you can on desktops. -
With a lot of work, you can probably find a more powerful fan that will fit.
But in the last laptop I had to fix (an old 2.8GHz Prescott), just rewiring the fan directly to the supply (5v in my case) was enough to cool that Prescott. -

Aren't Prescotts old Intel P4s?
-
Yes they are. And they're hot, exactly what you don't want in a laptop.

Indeed, I have one in my desktop...they are toasty and the stock HSF is insanely loud. Hyperthreading was a breakthrough IMO though...lol, I remember when I first put in that CPU I checked the device manager and was shocked to see 2 CPUs show up. I was like, OMG I got a secret CPU. Ah funny stuff...

if you cant upgrade the cooling fan, you cant upgrade the CPU?
i have a single core turion 64 but i have been thinking about upgradeing it to a dual core ut i am woried if i will have to upgrade the fan
