So I bought one of these Opentip.com: CablesToBuyâ„¢ Mini PCI Express to SATA USB Coverter Adapter and have put it in my laptop and I added a connector for the usb but nothing works I used a multimeter to check and theres no activity from the sata or usb outputs. I think I might have shorted it out or something.
I was wondering if anyone on here has had any luck putting one of these in a computer.
Oh and it was with an msi gx620.

OMG i was going to buy one of those!!!
Why did you add a connector for the usb? you usually add hidden internal usb components to the usb port's solder points.
All mini pci card slots don't have usb, sata and stuff. Only specific motherboards have it. You need schematics to see if it will work. EEEPC can do it. My dv9000 should be able to do it but i've never tested that.
If you correctly wired the usb device to the minipci device it should work.
What are you trying to do? i might be able to help, i've been thinking about mods to my laptop for the past week. -
If you're putting it on Wifi slot, big chance it doesn't have usb lines.
Usually WWAN slots have usb lines.
As for me who had WWAN slot occupied by hsdpa modem, I modded my usb port.. link @ sig -
I'm just trying to put my wireless mouse receiver on the inside of my computer since there are only 3. I attached a usb connector(female) to the wires. The thing is even if the usb/sata connectors for the pcie arent there I should have been able to get the 3.3v showing on the multimeter. Shown in the bottom right corner of the very blurry picture...

A lot of computers do run the usb data through the computer is it's not going to be used.
Really..the most surefire way would be hijack a external port from the inside, run that to a hub, and reconnect one of the outputs from the hub back to the external port. More wiring, but it's worked for others.
I really want to do this, but am not willing to void my 3 year warranty. *must have patience!*
