Does anyone know a guide, or happen to know themselves, how to use the internal usb to power something (like an led). I want to make sure I do this right. I have the general idea of how, but it'd always be good to know I'm not doing something wrong...

No? I plug in and go from there. What do you mean? Explain more.

I'm sorry I'm distracted at the moment, taking apart this laptop...
I'm talking internally using the usb power, with dealing with a usb plug. Like, taking wires and "plugging" them onto the usb port, from the inside of the laptop case. It supplies roughly 5V.
I am not talking about plugging a usb plug into the port. I'm talking inside the laptop. -
Get a manual, I mean no one even Einstein can answer the question the way you asked! Good luck. Hope all goes well!

It's kind of a simple question, just a complex answer. How do I go about using a usb port to power something if I am hooking up from the inside of my laptop?

What I'm asking is how can I get my usb to be an internal power source for something such as LEDs?
-
volt meter :> is help full too
it will tell you power power pins -
Volt meter won't be necessary since it's confirmed that it's +5V from all USB ports from a notebook (except maybe hubs that support +9V?). You will need a pinout from the internal USB leads on the board, find the GRD and +5V and basically solder your LED wires and rig to that. Make sure your LED supports at least 5 volts without burning out. Your LED should light up no problem.
Simple question with a simple answer. -
Yes, pretty simple really, a USB port has 4 pins. The outer 2 carry the power, the inner 2 carry data. Have a look at the way your USB port is attached to your board and see if you can find somewhere to place your leads.
(simple in theory) -
D3X/Zouden thanks for the help. -
Me thinks original post could have been more clear. Terms like "internal USB" is made up as no such exists. Wanting to "steal" "borrow" or "use" the power supply from a USB internally to power an LED? That might of been a little clearer.
Good luck it should work. I am curious, what is this LED going to do, like where?
-
Well I plan on placing whatever color LEDs I choose inside my laptop.
I'll use 2 on each speaker, 2 on the fan, maybe I'll place some where the ports are. I just think it'd look cool, is all.
If I can get the laptop case open I'll etch out the Dell logo, or do my own design and put LEDs there as well. -
If goes well post a picture would like to see.
