Has anyone gotten internet on an airplane, or how does that work??? Do I need some kind of wireless broadband satelite connection or something that I plug into my laptop to get internet where I'm at, or do I really need a router on the airplane.
Does anyone know how this works or how I can get wireless internet whereever I'm at. Do I need to buy something, or how does this work. Help please, thanks.
My laptop is the Dell E1705 Inspiron.

i'm not sure how it works but a google search will probably clear it up for you.
What I think is that you pay for it and then they give you the network key to access it...or...you pay for it and then there's some kind of Ethernet cord somewhere...not sure...my apologies. -

What is your question? You're babbling on a bunch of gibberish with like twelve questions all mixed together. What is it that you want to know?
There are broadband PCMCIA cards that use the cell phone networks to give you internet anywhere on the ground. T-Mobile, Verizon, etc. have them. Rate plans are around $80 a month for unlimited usage. Cannot use this onboard an aircraft.
Very VERY few airplanes have internet access onboard so you just forget about that idea. Some airports have free wifi in the terminals although most have pay-per-use Tmobile wifi.
Coffee shops frequently have 802.11 wireless internet access that is sometimes free.
Internet cafe's have internet connected computers that you can browse the web from.
Does that answer your gibberish question(s)? -
Internet isn't available on airplanes right now.. I just read something about Southwest (I think) testing it out starting Jan 08 and that would be the first time it would be offered.
-
You'll find snakes on a plane before you'll find Internet on a plane, and that's no joke. American Airlines and Southwest plan to test this in 2008. Until then, sorry, no Internet on a plane anywhere in the U.S. Though like others, I'm not totally sure I'm clear on what you're asking.

ok well thx. I think that answered it. So what stuff could I do for several hours on a plane with my laptop? Probably only play any games that I have stashed away.

Well I don't want 20 people to crowd me for those wanting to watch, or there might be those people that may be a bit disturbed from it...

Look, sorry to burst your bubble, but a 17 inch laptop is going to be hell to pull out on an airplane - it probably won't fit on the pull-out tray. Also, you'll have to rely on just battery, which will be useless for any games.

I usually watch a movie, play an old 2D game (think cards), or work.

Just leave the damn thing at home and bring a good book to read. -
I think I will pick up some DVD's somewhere before I head out, then I'll listen to them with my headset. Games would be pretty hard, especially with a touchpad. Solitaire may be the only game I could play.
Any good/new DVD's released lately? -
I didn't have any trouble figuring out what the OP asked. Must be because I'm a blonde.

Being able to browse the internet will come in time, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a charge of at least $20/hour.

I also figure out what he said with ease, but then again, I am a rocket scientist after all...
Basically what people said, I wouldn't carry a 17" with me. Even if it does last, it's still heavy. -
lol "airplace"

I thought I read the article in the paper many months ago about one or two large European carriers - Lufthanasa maybe? - offering Internet service on long-haul flights. I think the article said one of the companies had discontinued it due to lack of interest, however - it was too expensive for most people to justify.
Racing games might work. A lot of them have keyboard-only controls. But other than that, you couldn't really do any games that had a time element. -
