I have an HP x16-1025nr notebook. Putting all the other issues I've had with it and the really amazing customer service that HP is known for (ie. I still have these issues).

My gpu has hit as high as 103c and probably higher running WoW. This great feature of my laptop usually leads to the famous "Black Screen of Ur Comp Just Overheated (BSoUCJO)".

I have everything standard in the model including an NVidia GeForce GO 9600 GT. Except I have 2 gig of RaM.

Short of a cooling pad (which doesn't seem to be doing much) is there anything I can do (besides for not buying an HP again)?

Yes, 103C is high for a GPU temp - the most you can really do is open your laptop up and clean the dust out of the heat exhaust, which is probably a big factor in your high temps.

Yes, 103ºC is too hot. I'd suggest opening the laptop up and cleaning out any dust that may be impeding airflow.

Yeah, this was AFTER I did that. On the upside it hasn't overheated in the few hours since I had done that (it had overheated about 4 times earlier in the day). I've been looking around and seeing that a lot of people have overheating problems with HP, I just thought maybe there was something else I could do.

this is too high for a hp laptop.. i have a Dv5t which hits 90C at most with same GPU... u need to remove the dust in the laptop... also if u know , change the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU... it will help a lot with temps.. if u don't want to do all that , follow my 3 step simple guide after blowing compressed air in fans to clear dust...

    1. Undervolt CPU with the undervolting guide : http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/235824-undervolting-guide.html

    2. Use REB's riva tuner tweak which undervolts GPU i think for 9600M GT's...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-rivatuner-better-powermizer-alternative.html

    3. Get a notebook cooling pad.

    Thanks sean.
I had started undervolting when I realized that is was for the cpu and not gpu so I wasn't sure if it would end up helping. I have a cooling pad that I guess was too cheap as it doesn't do much. I will check out the REB riva tuner.

You may want to replace the thermal paste on the GPU.

Well my 8400mgs in m1330 gets upto 104C and throttles back. But yours is a new 9 series which wer "claimed" to be efficient and cool.103C is high for 9 series card, but it was OK for 8series card.

Before I ruined my heatsink, my 9600m GT was in the 70s with furmark (while overclocked).

You should check to see if the heatsink is making good contact with the GPU die. You might need to use a thermal pad or copper shim.

weird that it goes that high, 9600 usually starts throttling at 95C. Well, depends on a bios, probably. Changing the thermal pad would be a good idea i guess

well whatever the case , the HDX16 should have such high temps.. looks like the thermal paste is screwed or heatsink isn't in proper contact.
