    Hi!

    Just wondering if

One no. of 1GB 667MHz RAM is better than 2x512MB 667MHz RAM used for the 800MHz FSB?

    Thanks

OK, here's another question on the 800MHz FSB

Is it ok to use 800MHz RAM for the 800MHz FSB apart from the RAM price?

Apparently, from the link below its seems supported

    http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=43218

If supported then here're the 4 ways

    1) use a 1GB 667MHz RAM
    2) use 2x512MB 667MHz RAM
    3) use a 1GB 800MHz RAM
    4) use 2x1GB 800MHz RAM

Would 4) qualifies as the best?

    Thanks

I would go for 1x 1GB because that way you have another RAM slot open for future expansion. Ideally these days you want 2GB if you are going to be using Windows Vista. 1GB is fine for XP.

Regarding the 800MHz RAM - I wouldn't bother. It carries a slight premium right now and will most likely provide no tangible performance increase. 667MHz RAM is plenty to satisfy the Core 2 Duo.

Yeah 4 would be best simply because it is 2GB of ram total. 667mhz or 800mhz doesnt matter because it will all be running at 667mhz.
800mhz ram in a Santa Rosa laptop will be downclocked to 667mhz and be the same as 667mhz ram.

2x512MB is a little faster then 1x1gb because of dual channel. However the effect is small so 1x1gb is what i recommend because it is easier to upgrade.

    HI!

    Thanks for the fast reply.

I'm actually considering the Lenovo X61 and I won't mine paying the price for 2x1GB 800MHz RAM

Another thing is that I do not want VISTA because I was informed by DLINK that the software for running my home IP survelliance cameras is not VISTA compliance. Not sure about office equipment like printer, photocopying machine, scanner etc

Have asked Lenovo about whether downgrading from VISTA to Win XP Pro with XP hardware drivers would be warranted problem-free by Lenovo but still got no concrete reply from them.

I read it just now. And like the guy says CPUz doesnt lie:

This is the screen shot Andrew posted. The 800mhz ram is downclocked to 667mhz. Samething is what people are reporting about the 800mhz ram in the Zepto 6224W. Check out the end of this review.
