I was looking at a laptop that has a version both in 64bit amd and core duo which is 32bit oviously. Is it really worth having 64bit now, doesnt really seem like many stuff actually uses it. Will stuff really really use it in a few years and my laptop wouldn't suffice then?

I don't expect that 64-bit will become mainstream for at least a few years. As you pointed out there's still not much 64-bit software out there as of yet and it will take vendors some time to get 64-bit versions of their applications out the door. 64-bit drivers are still a little hit and miss as well. I can't see MS releasing a 32-bit version of Vista (the 64-bit version won't follow until some time after) and then abandon it in less than 3-5 years. Rumor has it they will even continue to support XP with a Service Pack 3 release after Vista goes public. I purchased a Core Duo notebook last month and am perfectly comfortable with my decision. I fully expect it to last me until my next upgrade which will be 2 1/2 to 3 years from now.
My 2 cents. -
