I find out Catalyst takes a lot of resources, and it delays a lot the start up. Also, Windows seems to handle pretty well Ati cards, so, anybody that have good reasons to have it installed?

Just for tweaking the card to fine tuned specs - "AA", ect. There is a LOT of functionality inside Catalyst - Also for TV support I would use it - Other than that, if you dont need the extra functionality or want to fine tune your card then you can disable/remove it -

When I've had ATI cards, I always just install the driver without the Catalyst Control Center. If I find I need it, I can always install it at a later date.

Many things from CCC are available in other programs like Ati tray tools.
There is only one thing you need CCC for: Avivo Converter. If you use this excelent plugin then you need CCC. Otherwise it is just taking up resources.

I generall always use it. With 2GB a ram there is plenty to spare. I like being able to just right click and switch profiles depending on whether or not I'm at home on my desk (with dual monitors), hooked up to a projector, or just using the screen on the laptop.

You don't need really need it but...
ATi tray tools works just the same. The only reason you need to keep it is to have powerplay and tv tuner options working properly (which i need it) -
I have 1 Gb of Ram, I guess that's why when I uninstall it, I feel I gained a lot of performance. Also, because I formated my PC recently, and I noticed the before and after Catalyst. May be if I would have had more junk on it, Catalyst wouldn't have make big difference.
Is ATI Catalyst really useful
