Newbie question  ; I have an A6025 1.86gh duo core 1gb laptop that apparently is two slow to run newer software eg. quickbooks 08, Word and excel 07, etc. I am not a big gamer, but I do watch video on occasion. Can I upgrade the CPU and if so, with what? It ran fine before I installed the new 07-08 programs.
Thank you for your anticipated help. :D

Actually...upgrade the RAM first...to either 2GB or 3GB. Failing that, then upgrade to a T7200/T7400/T7600 Core 2 Duo processor (those are the "newest" ones compatible with your system).

Considering I have a system that almost always runs a 800MHz (occasionally 1.2GHz) and is single core, I'm surprised you are having issues running Office 2007. But then again, I have 2GB.

Thanks Greg. That was in the plan too. Do you have any idea where I can buy a new CPU and check compatibility with the motherboard I have(stock)? Is the install easy(DIY)? Thank you again for your input and reply.

The Socket M laptop processors are on newegg and such, but they are expensive.
I suggest upgrading the harddrive and memory before upgrading your already fast processor.

If you havenot already, go into the run command and type in MSCONFIG.
shut off background processes and programs from the boot menu, so that your system starts faster and has less programs running in the background, easting up cpu, memory and harddrive power.

Don't forget the hard drive too. The drive is often the performance bottleneck as you notebook waits for data to be read off the drive. A faster drive should help some as well.

The cheapest place to get a new CPU is probably used off eBay. If you buy a new one, it will likely cost significantly more.

I haven't upgraded the CPU on a Fuji, but I know they are not as keen as other manufacturers like Lenovo or HP to handing out the service manuals which would explain the procedure.

It also surprises me you Core Duo is having trouble running Office. If you're running Vista with 1GB, that's probably too low.

Very cool everyone! Thank you for your replies. I will upgrade the RAM to 2G this week and report back to you the results. I am running Vista as some of you have cited may be the problem. I hope to post good news soon. Thank you again.

Shrbreak it does look like they got it correct no reason your CPU should be the bottleneck on Office applications. If their recommendations do not solve I would still not jump to CPU upgrade just post back. I think RAM is going to do the trick. If not defrag HDD and run anti spyware programs. Good luck!

Holy smokes! I upgraded the Ram to 4g and what a difference! Thanks everyone for your help. I will run defrag and the msconfig trick to see what is running in the background. Why do manufactures make these things with only min requirements? Thanks again.
