My DV6500t got problem. It isn’t able to startup or boot with my new 2 stick of 2GB RAM (4GB total). Some of NBR member advised me to update my BIOS and I think this is good idea and this could be the main problem. I need to buy RAM that less than 4GB (probably the cheapest, 2X256MB) only to boot and update my BIOS so could support 4GB. I already tried with my 1 stick 2GB + 1 slot empty, but didn’t work.
I have no idea whether my 2GB stick is bad or DV6500t (two slot, dual channel) can’t boot with 1 empty slot. Has Anyone try to boot DV6500t with 1 slot empty?
If it worked, other part of notebook could be failure. It is useless for me to buy RAM smaller capacity for trying to update my BIOS.
    My windows is Vista (32bit)

    Many thanks

Try both sticks in the RAM slot underneath the keyboard. Some BIOS in some laptops use that slot as a "primary" slot to where the largest (or only) RAM stick must be inserted.

    Just in case.

Thanks for quick reply. As I know, HPdv6500 only have 2 Ram slot all under (back) the notebook.

    Albert,
I have read about your problems in your other post, and I think you should try one thing before buying 256mb cards.
Take out the battery, ac power adaptor and bios battery. Usually the bios battery is a small bubble battery on the motherboard or it connects to the motherboard via two wires.
Take out the bios battery and power the system up. That should clear the cmos.
Then put the battery back in with 2 x 2gb of memory, and it should work.

If it does not work, than I would advise getting a single 256mb card for like $5 so you can get a new bios upgrade.

is the battery located on a socket, or is it external and connected by a wire?
You should be able to unplug the wire if its external.
If the battery is in a round black socket, than you will be able to pop the battery out with your fingernail.

If the battery is physically soldered to the motherboard, than you can either disconnect one of the leads with a soldering iron, but it would be easier at this point to just buy a 256mb card.

    Does it look like this?

If yes, than you want to push on the small part which sticks up, in the picture it is on the right most part of the battery. Just push the clip to the right, or away frorm the center of the battery, and it will come out.

I think It's better to get the 256mb memory. That's cheap. thanks

Yeah that's it. but mine has no clip. This will be difficult. I might be better to get a new cheap RAM. Many thanks for all your help.
