    Hi guys,

i have a doubt that dell xps m1530 is also a centrno 2 as per a thread which i read.

The lines which made me think r below followed by the link:-

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=390122&page=2

"Some T-series processors are Centrino 2-compliant, others are not. My T9500 is a Centrino 2 processor. My former T5750 was not.

The Merom processor series (65nm process) are Centrino processors. The Penryn series (45nm) are Centrino 2.

And yes, if you get an Intel WiFi Link 5100 or 5300 card, then your system will be a complete Centrino 2 platform. And yes, it's pretty much nothing more than a name for that particular combination of chipset, processor, and wireless."

    Don't mis-understand me.

    please comment on this.

    thank u in advance.

The XPS M1530 is not a Centrino 2-capable computer because it uses the older PM/GM965 chipset. Even with a Penryn processor and Intel 5xxx wireless card, it will only qualify as Centrino, not Centrino 2, because of the chipset. To be Centrino 2, it would need the PM/GM45 chipset, which is not available on the M1530.

Centrino (and all its iterations) have always been platform(cpu+chipset+wifi...) based and even though you have the Penryn cpu, the other components required to qualify for Centrino2 are not present in your laptop. Since your laptop has the 965 series chipset it is classified as a Centrino system.

miner hit the nail on the head.

Yes, the T9500 is a Penryn processor, which is Centrino 2. The Intel 5xxx wireless cards are Centrino 2. However, the 965 chipset is not Centrino 2, it is the original Centrino, and that cannot change unless Dell releases a new motherboard for the M1530, with the 45-series chipset, which they are not going to do.

Why do you need Centrino 2 capabilities? (especially considering it's just a marketing term)

Nothing wrong - just remind you that Centrino is a marketing term for having a current-generation Intel CPU, chipset, and wireless card. Keep in mind that there is only ONE generation difference between the XPS M1530 (Centrino, pink label), and a Centrino 2 notebook.

If you wanted the most up-to-date laptop, you probably shouldn't have gotten an XPS M1530 that uses an already outdated chipset.
