I know of converters to have computers with DVI out connect to HDTV's via HDMI. But is the opposite possible?
Most laptops I see with HDMI out are complemented only with VGA out for computer monitors. I am wondering if I could get a converter to use the HDMI port to output to a monitor with only DVI in. Would there be any loss in quality or any other issues?

Yes you can.
I use a HDMI - DVI cable to connect my Z to a 22" LCD.
You don't really need a converter, a cable is easier imo. -
It is trivial - you can get a cable online. You do lose HDMI audio however.

DVI contains digital video output whereas HDMI contains both digital video and audio.
When you do HDMI->DVI conversion, you extract the digital video and drop (ignore) the audio signals. When you do DVI->HDMI conversion, you only transfer the digital signals and leave the audio coneection in HDMI empty since there is no audio output on DVI. -
No big deal, you can always get a separate audio cable. It`s how I do it, DVI for image, and a separate cable for audio...
