i need to fix this ASAP but i dont know how, i posted this on the toshiba forum but that section is like deserted.
my normal 3dmark05 score is about 8300, now im getting like 7700, and BF2142 is laggy as hell now.
drivers and everything were installed after i reformatted my laptop

I believe that is because the Core Duos dont give you full resources all the time. It usually downclocks itself for what you are doing. (I believe) So if you need it, it will give full clockspeed.

ohhhh but i want my extra performance back and i dont know how to get it back
how come i get this

That is the same reason. I think there might be a bios option to shut off the "speed-stepping" or whatever it is called. But I am not a 100% sure!
-
ok i'll check out the BIOS now, cheers
-
You are on AC power right? Not in battery mode? You might want to check out your Power Settings in Control Panel. There might be an error with the AC Power settings.
-
nothing in bios, not a single thing to change the cpu/board settings.
ya im plugged in the wall socket and my powere scheme is Portable/Laptop
u guys know any program to check GPU clock and stuff, i tried coolbits OCing stuff but it didnt work, it didnt show up in 7900GTX option -
ok wtf, i just run 3dmark05 and it scored 7200 .... this is BS
-
ok i downloaded this BIOS V2.10 it has "Improves G71M performance!" <<is that the 7900GTX?? and i booted from cd... installed the bios.. then wham! system restarted.. GOT BLACK SCREEN now, nothing shows up, so im guessing its fked?

Well like I said you still might see the CPU clock speed drop. But I think you if adjust the power settings it should improve.

Did your computer come with a custom Toshiba power settings application? Chances are that application is using the incorrect power scheme.
CPU and GPU underclocking is usually caused by power setting errors. -
just run something like super pi ( that uses allot of processing power ) and while it is running check you processor freqentie .it could be maxed out, running 1.8 ghz .
if you have a program like notebook hardware control you can force the processor to run at 1.8 all the time . but i wouldnt suggest that because you wont win any performance only alot of heat buildup. -
Yes, I'm pretty sure that your processor is working like it should. This means that when full processor capacity isn't needed, it clocks down to save power and keep the heat down. But as soon as some program needs full power, the processor automatically clock itself up to 1.8GHz. Some programs like a web browser works just as fast when the processor is running on 1GHz speed as it was running on 1.8GHz. As someone already said, download a program like SuperPi and start a test. Then when the test is running check your processor speed. It should be at 1.8GHz.
This function is called Speedstep and it works this way on every core duo/core2duo/pentium m etc processor. If you really want to turn it off, you could download a program called RM clock and turn it off with it. I wouldn't advice you to do so though, because Speedstep doesn't slow your computer down. It helps your computer run cooler when all the processor power isn't needed and also saves some energy.
Hope this helps -
ye as i was saying before, i downloaded this V2.10 bios and says improves g71m performance.... well
after it flashed*supposedly* it just restarted and now my screen is BLACK, completely black, it wont wont show anything from the power up, im gonna be on my way to lynnwood to see if they can do anything, they were listed on Authorized Service Providers list. i cant send it back to toshiba for repairs because i voided the warranty by upgrading the HD and memory, lol.
back to my cruddy desktop<<< oh wait its my cousins laptop
i will never bios flash again!!! -

Try downloading Notebook Hardware Control. It gives you quick and easy access to your speedstepping feature and you can regulate it based on your power settings.
Is My CPU & RAM running correctly?
