I hear a lot of hype about it and based on what I read about the 8800, It sounds like the 8800M is worth the wait. But am I waiting for nothing? Is the 8800M really going to be produced?
I heard the card will be released the third week of this month. Crazy, but I actually scheduled a vacation for then just so I can be zen with my new laptop!
I haven't seen any prices come down on performance laptops, like you would expect if there were something better coming out. And I haven't seen anything from Nvidia about it.
Can anybody tell me if the rumor is true or is it just a fairy tale?![]()

Yeps see here.
There was also a News Bits on this.....
EDIT: Heres the news bit. -
The discussion goes back to what theinquirer.com heard. I suppose if that's a trustworthy source then it's on!
They even point to an actual date:
"Release date is third week of November, and we heard the date of November 19th, but this is more to do with how ready Clevo is with the new designs."
So I'll hang tight then. Sounds like it's going to be soon! -
They might be comming out with the 8700 so thinking of the 8800 is kind of a waste of time!
-
Huh? The 8700 is out
-
And the 8700 is crippled by its 128-bit bus, which makes it a loser to the 7950 in higher resolutions. Overall, most people think it's just an overclocked 8600m GT and was simply designed by Nvidia to stem people off until they get the 8800m going. -
Okay. I'm satisfied I'm waiting for a good reason. Thnx! I don't think I ever waited for hardware to come out before.
-
Yes, they are coming out with the 8800M later this month. Its worth the wait if you have the money. The cheapest system will probably be around 2,000 $$. Think about it... nVIDIA knows everyone wants it in a notebook, do you think they would pass up that chance to make more $$? No Way. Its coming soon, just keep your eyes on NBR and you'll know as soon as its available.
Hope I could Help -

I thought the M was for mobile. So I thought I would be looking for GeForce 8800M GT, since GTX didn't offer much more for the money from what I saw
-
Mmm, I thought the M was for mobile, too, as in for laptops. While the divisions would be GS, GT, and GTX.
-
M is definitely for MOBILE, the three possible lines are GS, GT, and GTX. If Nvidia named cards M for the low end of that card then 8600M GT would be saying that it was two different versions of the same card...Doubt it very much! No offense intended...
-
The m postfix is the addon for mobile versions as of the 8X series.
While yes, this marks them as lower end than their desktop-same-branded coutnerparts, this is not entry level spec. Thats the GTS/GS(Depending on preformance teir, atm)
Mr. Eurocom, Its rather disapointing to see someone like you so mixed up... considering...
Yes, it is known, nv switching their naming scheme from the go to ati's m postfix is a little confusing... but eh, the deeds done. -
I think the cheapest notebook we will see with 8800M will be $2500-$3000 on release.
-
I want to know the second it arrives
-
The cheapest notebook will be $3000+, i do not doubt it. Do you guys remember the prices when the Go 7950GTX came out? Let alone the 7800 GTX when it was top spec?
