My y460 has only a 1366 x 768 screen (which is somewhat reasonable as it is 14 inches). Coming from a 24 inch 1920 x 1200 desktop screen this was a bit of a change, but now I have become used to it and it doesn't bother me all that much. However, I have definitely noticed that monitors in general (especially laptop ones) seem to have decreased in image quality lately. The image on my Y460's screen is OK, but noticeably worse than the image on my 24 inch monitor, which is still only a 6 bit TN panel.

If CPU etc is not an issue, you can buy a thinkpad R50p with pentium M processor and swap the screen with a QXGA (2048x1536) one.

If you say so.

My 8740w is 16:10, 17", 1920x1200. It comes with a 1680x1050 res standard, however can be upgraded to 1920x1200 for $75. HP also offers a 1920x1200 "DreamColor 2" screen, which is a 10-bit IPS (1+ billion colors); I got that one. I could have saved some cash if all I wanted was the high screen res. -
If they're offered, the higher res' screens are often, but not always, better quality too; better contrast, better colour space, brightness, uniformity. This is worth considering and often not mentioned in simple specs or cursory reviews.
E.g. in the case of my Studio 17; one sloppy review I read actually marked it down as a Con that you had to 'pay more for the FHD option' - crap journalism. In fact should have been a pro that a FHD AND much higher quality all round screen upgrade was an option. -
That is a very valid argument for higher resolution screen.

You can actually transplant a T61p motherboard (with a T9500 or X9000 CPU and 8GB of RAM) into a T60p chassis and then swap in a QXGA display.
It is awesome and if it were not for the 8GB RAM max limit, I would not have even considered upgrading to another laptop (need to run a ton of VMs). -
Really?
That would be super awesome, could you point me to the relevant threads for doing this? -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I think he's going off the fact an average Joe Schmoe pays for an "amazing" screen upgrade but then it put off the fact the laptop speaker quality blows, completely displacing the fact he got this super amazing screen. -
The link you posted has an option for 1920x1080. That is not WUXGA, 1920x1200 is.
I guess I'm gonna have to hope my M4400 lasts a really long time...
Is a high resolution a big improvement?
