I'm in the process of purchasing a notebook (online) and I'm not sure whether I should seek one out with an internal modem? My current notebook has one but I've never used it. Should this be a good assumption that I won't need it for my new one?

unless you plan on faxing from it ... I really doubt you will ever need it.

You know your needs better than anyone else; if you have not used the modem on your notebook and you don't have a defined use for one in the near future, it doesn't make sense to get one.
Most consumer notebooks sold in the U.S. in the past few years have not included a modem. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
As stated above, modems have been absent from consumer line notebooks for a few years now and are disappearing from business models. If worst comes to worst just buy a USB modem, they are like 30 dollars.

I see then, thanks everyone!
Is a modem necessary?
