I am in the market for a notebook
(Dell E1505, HP dv5000t, or anything else w/ good battery life & dedicated GPU RAM)
How many notebook users actually use their second battery outside of a long trip?
My usage would primarly be going to college in the mornings, and work in the evenings.
Not often would I be at a place where I would not be able to plug up the notebook for a few hours
Also, if there are any suggestions for different notebooks to consider, my ears are open?

I'd consider configuring the Dell with the 6 cell and then purchasing the 9 cell in addition. it will give you about 6-8 hours total life. If you really need more power than that I would suggest going for a more ultraportable with better battery life.

If you do get a dell, it's very smart to just buy an extra 9 cell instead of upgrading your old one. The price they charge you to upgrade the battery is just about 30 dollars short of a whole new battery.
It doesn't sound as though you'd really need a 2nd battery though. -
Sometimes, a 2nd battery is very useful for outdoor use. If main battery life is gone, then 2nd battery can let the machine up and running. I will imagine that using a digital camera without a backup battery cannot take any pictures anymore when all the main battery are used.
Is a second Battery necessary
