CHKDSK reads that I have unreadable segments and can't fix it. Is there other programs out there to fix it? If not, will formatting fix it or will that unreadable segment stay?

    History:
I shrunk my C: drive to create a new data drive G:. I guess this messed up so it might have corrupted something. Anyway, I couldn't resize through disk management again since G: didn't have unallocated space to it's right. I tried other partition managers which didn't work, I researched, and I came to this conclusion that W7 disk management screwed my C: drive.

W7 didn't do anything. Your drive needs replacing.

Unreadable segments is a physical thing - not a 'configuration' error or yours or Win 7's part.

Start shopping for a new drive.

Was it merely a coincidence that I experienced these problems after me tinkering with the hdd then...? I am almost convinced it was the resizing of the drive with data on it that might have corrupted the data...

It's possible that low level formatting the drive would take care of it, but don't count on it. I agree, it's likely time to replace the drive.

Those sectors were already bad, you only noticed them though because of your resizing operation.

Run a test with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

Alright, called Lenovo and they said they are sending me a new drive.

I ran the test from Lenovo Toolbox and I failed one of the tests, they said since it did it's most likely faulty.

Thanks for all the help, + rep for the limited people I could give to. Now I have to decide whether it's worth it to get the intel x25-m g2 or just go with the hitachi 7k500.

Consider that you should only fill the SSD (and HD for that matter) to about 70 or 80% and make sure that this doesn't limit you for the intended lifespan of the drive.

So, (for the 160GB SSD), if you can live with about 105GB actual used capacity (apps/data/OS and pagefile/hibernation files), then it will give you the most bang for the buck. But those bucks start in the 400 range and up.

The Hitachi 7K500 on the other hand, will be a great upgrade too - still mechanical, but you can buy five of them (at more than 4 times the capacity of the single Intel SSD - each) for the same money.

The SSD will not give you 5 times the performance in real world use - but, it will almost feel like it does. :)

And, you can use the replacement drive Lenovo is sending in an external enclosure (I recommend Vantec) to store/backup all your notebook data.

What would I do though? Use the replacement HD Lenovo is sending and wait for the Intel G3's to show up later this year (at the very least, the G2's will be cheaper by then, right? ;)

    Good luck.
