I broke these on my laptop. Do they need soldering to the motherboard? or do you just push the metal pins through a whole and bend them in place or something?
And if they require soldering, any idea how much a shop would charge to solder them?
Thanks

You will need to desolder the broken one from the board to remove it, and solder on the new jack. Soldering is easy, but desoldering on modern lead-free boards can get tricky and you can do permanent damage if you're not careful.
Not sure how much a shop would charge to do this but you may want to look at how much replacement motherboards cost for your laptop. If you are lucky, the audio jacks will be on a separate daughter board.Starlight5 likes this. -
Like kosti said, looks like the old one will have to be desoldered and then the new one will be soldered on, which might be a pain. Always check to see if the audio jacks are located on a separate board, you would be surprised at the cost and time it will save you. If it's not located on another board, I would look for a repair shop if available. I recently tried to desolder the power jack off my motherboard but nothing has worked.
Is it easy to replace an audio headphone jack socket?
