I have a T500 Lenovo and, though the graphics card is [okay] we all know there are newer, better, faster cards out there. Is this something that's soldered on to the board? Or is it user changeable?

Check out this thread (as well as the other threads inked to the first post) for more info on upgrading laptop graphics.
Basically, the T500 can't have its GPU changed AFAIK so your best solution to boost graphics performance would be an external solution(either buy a ViDock 2 at 300$ or Build your own external graphics as seen in this thread). Mind you, an external solution compromises mobility. -
Soldered on. if you want to upgrade GPU's at a later time you will need to look at laptops with MXM video cards which are user swappable ... if you can find the right ones

Well, option A) is no longer quite true...

Yeah nowadays you can either purchase an external solution or make one yourself with the guide here on NBR. Mind you, apparently there have been issues with working the DIY ViDock with Windows 7.

This is why I game on a desktop.
