Is it me, or do laptop hinges and the screens feel weak?

I just bought a new Acer laptop...but the only thing that bugs me is the screen and the hinges seem pretty flimsy and don't feel like they will last long. I thought it was just mine...but all the screens on the laptops at Best Buy felt the same way...even some of the expensive ones, they weren't very stiff and wiggled a bit in place. Anyone else think the same?

The only laptop I have seen that "meets my expectations" is a friend's really expensive Thinkpad...that screen feels super stiff and it doesn't have any flex to it.

If the hinges do break, is it covered under warranty?

*hugs my thinkpad* metal hinges and almost zero flex ftw

Those were my same exact thoughts when I looked at different laptops at Bestbuy and Circuit City. I don't know about the warranty, but if they have accidental damage, then that should cover it, but as for base warranty it should not.

The ones on display at Best Buy probably gets opened and closed probably a few hundred times a week.
You can always get an exchange on yours if you think its only yours but it seems not.
I don't know about the warranty, if its defective they will replace it, if its wear and tear, might not, but I don't think that you will wear the hinges down to the point where it cannot even hold the screen up.

It's not mine, it's all of them...the display unit was worse...but that's because it's opened and closed a hundred times a day. So you don't think it's going to cause a problem?

It's the flex/wobble that irritates me...but I can get used to it I guess. I am just used to using a expensive Thinkpad I guess.

It was the most annoying thing for me, but now I'm used to it.

Thinkpads do have pretty awesome hinges, ;).

That said, both of my Dells, XPS M140 and e1505 didn't have much flex/wobble.

What is the point? As people have said what is going to happen? Your replacement would not be any better than what you talk about!

I think they're just scared it'll break is the problem. I mean if my screen were way flexy I wouldn't really care since it goes away after a tiny bit anyways(like when you stop moving). A broken screen would be really bad though =[
