Ive narrowed my noise to the hard drive...when its active, there is no noise, when its inactive its really effing annoying. like, if i scoll up and down really fast it goes away. also, its magnified if it is against a hard surface.
i dont think its the same thing as the C2D whine.
any ideas? im sick of them telling me to return it and try another one, clearly thats not working! im just curious if this is how all laptops work; i dont want to make a lot of fuss about something thats just a limitation. i guess i have freak sensitive hearing too, heh.

it also bothers me that its there sometimes and sometimes its not...and i cant figure out why.
im scared that no matter what laptop i buy ill hear high pitched noises because of my freak ears -
Seriously, how many threads are you aiming to do on all these noises you have already explained/found on your laptop ?
You've done like 20 threads now, are you aiming for 100? 10000?
It feels like you've been making one new thread everyday atleast all different ways to say that you laptop makes a noise in one or another way. -
All electrical parts such as chokes and coils make noise. Many capacitors and resistors make noise as well. Normally these are designed to be out of the human range of hearing, but we can see that someone screwed up with the recent motherboard design for the C2D. -

i have to agree, this is much more likely your processor than your hard drive based on what you have said before. Scrolling a webpage will really have little effect on your HD
core 2 processor have this issue when they switch between power states
If you try to look for the problem in the wrong area you will be disappointed, and considering that you have described your issue over and over. Its clear the problem is probably not the GPU noises or HD issues. -
but none of the normal ways to fix it work...enabling bluetooth or sound recorder does nothing. and there are no software fixes for it because nothing is compatible with this, and there are no BIOS options for a fix of any sort. so annoying! its also not constant, sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not.

RMClock is it possible to run under Vista 64bit?

Is it normal for hard drives to make a high pitched whine when inactive?
